Who Are The Niagara Sea Cadets?

The Niagara Sea Cadets are a group of energetic young people committed to participating in nautical activities (such as the ones listed below) and developing their knowledge of naval and maritime environments.

 Sea Cadets have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills, challenge themselves, and learn through our weekly programming that runs from September to June on Wednesday evenings. (6:30-9:30pm)   

Those who join have a unique opportunity to participate in fun and informative events like annual sailing regattas, ceremonial events, citizenship activities, and even international exchanges!

Youth 12 to18 years of age are welcome to join us. We are committed to be an inclusive and safe space for the youth of our area.

Sailing

Sailing specifically refers to the sport of using wind to power sails and propel the boat forward (rather than engines)

nautical activities

It includes surfing, kitesurfing, yachting, kayaking, wakeboarding, scuba diving, snorkeling, windsurfing, jet skiing, sailing, jet surfing, and fishing..

naval communications

Naval Communicators establish and manage all external voice, radio-teletype and data circuits, and provide real-time tactical information in support of operations.

shipboard life

Life at sea during the age of sail was filled with hardship. Sailors had to accept cramped conditions, disease, poor food and pay, and bad weather.

tall ship training

Training includes sailing, seamanship, navigation, repairs, maintenance afloat, and safety training, including first aid, sea survival and short range radio.

target training

Archery requires skills of precision, control, focus and determination. It is available to be practiced by all and is a widespread pastime in Canada.

What programming do we offer?

Weekly Programming

Our weekly programming runs from September to June on Wednesday evenings (6:30-9:30pm) through the form of Regular Parade nights and is open to any youth in the region aged 12-18.

Our summer training is summer camp for cadets. The Sea Cadets corps have 16 different summer training programs for sea cadets to choose from, ranging from band camp to marine engineering.
